Beast mounts its owner

A FARMER was rushed to hospital after his “amorous” prize bull tried to mount him.

Douglas Smith, 34, dislocated his hip when the horny one-tonne beast reared and jumped on him at an auction.

Onlookers rushed into the ring and herded the sexually frustrated Simmental breed bull back into his pen.

Mr Smith’s mum Morag, 57, said: “The bull was just amorous and tried to jump Douglas.

“He waited for Douglas to get up, and he just looked down at him as if to say, ‘What are you doing lying down there?’

“And when he didn’t get up he just very calmly reversed away from him and someone else put him back in his pen.”

Other farmers wrapped Douglas in blankets while an ambulance was called to Thainstone Mart, Aberdeens, on Tuesday.

He was yesterday “on the mend” at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, according to Morag.

The farmer, who owns the prize-winning Drumsleed Simmentals herd in Fordoun with his parents, is now “quite cheerful” about the incident. Morag added: “The doctors were able to put his hip back and there might be another operation in the next couple of days.

“But he is sitting up and is really quite cheerful.”

Aberdeen and Northern Marts boss Grant Rogerson praised those who rushed to Douglas’s side. He said: “Everyone was very shocked and we hope Mr Smith makes a full recovery.

“Thank you to our first aiders – who acted quickly – and the paramedics for their fast response before taking him to the infirmary.”
