WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

IF you’re a big fan of those “how the other half lives” documentaries – if only as an excuse to lob stuff at the telly – then I think you’re going to love A HOTEL FOR THE SUPER RICH & FAMOUS (8pm, BBC1).

It’s about a place in London called the Corinthia Hotel (“a stone’s throw away from Trafalgar Square” says the voiceover, although if you actually did start throwing stones around there I’d imagine you’d be nicked in next to no time) and it prides itself on offering guests the ultimate in luxury.

People who’ve stayed there include Cuba Gooding Jr and The Voice UK’s favourite coach, will.i.am.clearly.paid.way.too. much.money.

The Corinthia’s general manager is Thomas Kochs (oh, behave), a German bloke who’s forever looking for new ways to posh things up (not his actual words).

Even those who pop in just for afternoon tea (I say “just” – don’t expect any change out of 50 quid, and that’s per person) will find he’s paid extraordinary attention to detail. He wants their experience to appeal to all their senses, so they can truly feel the luxurious splendour of their surroundings. Thomas is particularly proud of the enormous chandelier that hangs in the Crystal Moon lounge, and wants guests to appreciate it to the full. “I’m thinking how can I bring this chandelier to the table…” he remarks. I’m surprised he hasn’t asked Del and Rodney.

ELSEWHERE, in KIRSTIE’S HANDMADE CHRISTMAS (8pm, Channel 4), Kirstie Allsopp reveals “how to make stylish napkins for your Christmas table”, mistakenly imagining I could ever be arsed.
