Forbes dub them a power duo

THERESA May has been crowned the second most powerful woman in the world.

Forbes magazine said the Prime Minister deserved the gong after “tirelessly” spending two years working on Britain leaving the EU.

She made up a power duo with top of the league Angela Merkel, Germany’s chancellor.

The award comes as Mrs May was yesterday dealt a fresh Brexit blow after the EU said Britain could cancel its exit at any time.

Top law officer Campos Sanchez-Bordona said the UK could withdraw its plan to trigger Article 50.

The news has been seized on by remainers.

Sanchez-Bordona said Europe’s court could declare that Article 50 “allows the unilateral revocation of the notification of the intention to withdraw from the EU, until such time as the withdrawal agreement is formally concluded”.

Ex diplomat Lord Kerr, who wants a fresh referendum, said: “It is still up to us to decide whether we want to keep the existing deal we’ve got in the EU rather than leave on the Government’s terms.”

But the PM’s spokesman said: “The position of the Government has always been that Article 50 will not be revoked.”

Meanwhile, the BBC has axed plans for a Brexit debate between Mrs May and Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn on Sunday.
