Flop Ken save me a fortune

- By ROB COLE

NEIL WARNOCK won’t splash the cash on a new striker in January – if he can get Ken Zohore fit and firing.

The Cardiff boss insists his Danish frontman, 24, can provide the goals required to stave off relegation and is backing him to follow in the footsteps of Marko Arnautovic.

Warnock watched Nantes striker Emiliano Sala this week but doesn’t know if he will get money to spend next month.

He said: “When you have the qualities Ken has, you’ve got to have the desire to make the most of them. If he is firing, I don’t think we’d have to buy anyone up front in January.

“We are looking because he isn’t firing at the moment.

Hard

“The priority is to give Ken a couple of weeks of pre-season training and get him ready for the Man United game.

“If we could get him firing on all cylinders it would eliminate a lot of our problems. First and foremost, he has got to do the hard work.

“When I look at West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic, six months ago he was idle, never bothered and probably got a manager a sack here or there.

“Then the penny dropped, he started working his socks off and now he is one of the best strikers in the country.”

Cardiff host relegation rivals Southampton today hoping to build on their 2-1 home win over Wolves last week.

Warnock added: “They have the best squad in the bottom half and if you had the choice you wouldn’t want to play against a team that had just changed managers.”
