Fans’ snake plan for Silva

- By ADRIAN KAJUMBA

WATFORD fans have prepared a poisonous, snake-inspired reception for Marco Silva.

Hornets supporters are travelling to Goodison Park tonight armed with rubber snakes to greet former boss Silva with.

The Everton boss will be public enemy No.1 for the away contingent.

And the way he has eventually ended up in charge of Everton has led to him being branded a snake by fans of his old side.

Everton’s move for

Silva last season sparked the bad blood that now exists between the two clubs.

Watford stood firm but Everton’s long-running pursuit eventually led to a complaint that the Merseysiders had broken Premier League rules with an “illegal approach” for Silva.

But by then the damage had already been done as the whole episode destabilised the Hornets, sending them on a downward spiral.

And when Silva was sacked in January, he had picked up just one win and two draws from his final 11 games in charge. Everton ended up appointing an out-of-work Silva in May but Watford felt the harm caused by their initial attempt meant they were entitled to damages. Silva’s successor Javi Gracia (left) was doing his best to stay out of the dispute and refused to whip up the animosity.

He said: “I don’t know him personally. I know now he is making a good job in Everton and I respect him. But now I’m focused on my team, thinking of the next game and that’s it.”
