AN alleged fraudster given £32,000 as a Grenfell Tower victim was 12 miles away during the blaze, a court heard.
Abolaji Onafuye, 54, claimed he lived with Zainab Deen, 32, and her son. messages. One wrote:
“You are my heroes. It’s very important to be there when somebody who loves you is sick.”
The America’s Got Talent judge revealed her injuries yesterday when she posted a photo of herself outside a London hospital with her arm in a sling.
She wrote: “Thank you to all the wonderful nurses Dr’s and my amazing surgeon for the care and expertise given to me.” £32,000 in donations and housing support in the aftermath of the blaze.
Jurors at Isleworth Crown Court heard that taxpayers in Kensington and Chelsea footed the £23,500 bill for Onafuye’s hotel room. Another £13,000 went on living costs when the property consultant was rehoused.
Onafuye said in court: “I suffered mental trauma.”
He told police in an interview: “I was temporarily insane because I was fasting when I was arrested. When I was saying I lived in Grenfell Tower in my police interview I was not in the right frame of mind. “It was a hallucination.” Onafuye, of Hammersmith, denies two counts of fraud by false representation between June 21 last year and June 7 this year.
