NUNES EYES GREATNESS
BRILLIANT Brazilian Amanda Nunes wants to be remembered as the greatest female fighter of all time.
She aims to make UFC history later this month by becoming the first woman to hold two titles at the same time.
Nunes already has the bantamweight belt and is convinced she is ready to add the featherweight strap.
She tackles featherweight champion Cris Cyborg in the co-main event at UFC 232 in Las Vegas on December 30 and said: “I know I will be victorious.”
The 30-year-old, who has an MMA record of 16-4-0, won the bantamweight title by defeating Miesha Tate in July 2016.
She has successfully defended it three times and is now determined to add the 145lb belt, claiming it would make her the greatest ever.
‘The Lioness’ said: “That’s the reason why I made this decision to move up a division. I want fans to remember me like that.
“By winning this one, the fans will never forget me. It will be a huge achievement. It’s a big fight, a fight that will make history, and I will come out victorious one more time.”
Cyborg, who won the featherweight title against Tonya Evinger in July last year, goes into the tussle on the back of 10 straight wins.
Nunes said: “I think Cris is a tough athlete and it won’t be an easy fight.
“When we’re in the octagon, we have to be prepared for everything – and I’m prepared for everything.
“I know she puts on pressure and I will be prepared to deal with that pressure and counter the entire time.
“I’ll also put pressure on the right time and win the fight wherever we are. It will be a spectacular fight. Don’t blink, anything can happen.”
The Cyborg-Nunes contest is the co-main at UFC 232 along with the rematch between light-heavyweights Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.
