Cooper rides to rescue
DALLAS COWBOYS aim to win a place in the play-offs to cap an amazing turnaround since the arrival of wide receiver Amari Cooper.
The former Oakland Raider had three touchdown passes in last week’s vital 29-23 overtime win over Philadelphia Eagles.
It means the Texan team have won five of their six games since Cooper (left) joined.
Now a win at Indianapolis Colts on Sunday would see the Cowboys clinch the NFC East and progress to the post-season in search of their first Super Bowl win since 1995.
Running back Ezekiel Elliott said: “I didn’t know we were going to get all that, honestly.
“But when I finally saw him in person, when I saw him catch the ball, I saw him run around and run AMERICAN FOOTBALL with IAN WHITTELL
after the catch, that’s when I really realised he’s truly special.
“I’m glad to have that guy on the same side as me.”
Dallas look set for the play-offs whatever happens in Indianapolis, although a more significant clash could take place when Los Angeles Chargers visit Kansas City Chiefs.
LA are praying star running back Melvin Gordon can recover from a knee injury.
Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said: “I’m hopeful.
“He’s one of our better players. I’d like him to play.”
Another big clash this weekend will see New England Patriots visit the out-of-form Pittsburgh Steelers, with both giants of the game battling to be certain of the play-offs.
