DARRYN TAKES A GIANT STEP

-

BIG FISH angler Darryn Stolworthy took another step closer to landing the prestigious Drennan Cup following the capture of a 3lb 3oz roach.

The trophy, voted for by anglers, recognises the top specimen hunter of freshwater giants and the Norfolk expert is a favourite for the 2018-19 award.

Stolworthy’s highlights include seven roach over the magical 2lb barrier.

Darryn’s latest catch came from a Norfolk stillwater with the roach falling to maggot feeder tactics, and a size 14 hook to 5lb hooklink.

Six new British records have been officially ratified by fishery chiefs. The British Record Fish Committee assessed a string of claims but only rubber-stamped half a dozen captures.

They include Lawrence King’s record-equalling golden orfe weighing 8lb

5oz, Cameron Atkinson’s

18lb shore-caught spurdog from North Devon and a

75lb tope by Ryan Wingfield taken from Pembrokeshire.

Double figure bream are rare on rivers but Mike Staines overcame the odds to bank an 11lb 1oz giant.

He was fishing the Kings Weir stretch of the River Lea legering a 10mm boilie, fished in conjunction with a PVA bag of freebies.

Rumours are circulating that the carp record has been broken by a fish caught in Surrey. Anglers in the area are tight-lipped but word on the grapevine is that a 68lb 10oz mirror carp has been landed from a lake near Chertsey.

If true, it would pip the existing best of 68lb 1oz – a fish known as The Parrot.
