BREXIT HOLS NIGHTMARE

‘No-deal jets could be grounded’

HOLIDAYMAKERS will be warned not to book trips abroad after March as a no-deal Brexit looms, it has been claimed.

Travel firms are terrified of planes being grounded.

The holiday companies fear chaos at airports and customers clamouring for refunds.

Proposed guidelines have reportedly been drawn up by Government officials and were due to be discussed by the Cabinet before their meeting was cancelled last week.

Under the leaked proposals, the Government could step in to cover travel firms’ losses. Downing Street has branded the reports of the advice “categorically untrue”.

But Labour’s Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer warned: “It beggars belief any minister could have considered these proposals and honestly thought a no-deal Brexit is a credible way forward.

“When the Prime Minister comes to Parliament, she should finally admit that no-deal is off the table and let parliament take back control of this process.”

Earlier this year, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary warned that his company was selling tickets for flights in early 2019 that may need to be cancelled due to Brexit.

But the Association of British Travel Agents said: “The European Commission has said that even in a no-deal scenario flights will still operate between the UK and EU. Abta is providing travellers with advice, including on pet passports and driving licences.”
