Eriksen’s late show proves Spurs have now got bottle

Christian Eriksen came off the bench in the second half to strike in stoppage time for his first Premier League goal of the season.

He was on the bench because Pochettino chose to hand a debut to 18-year-old Oliver Skipp instead.

The versatile youngster didn’t fail to impress. Tottenham have produced yet another of their own.

Skipp is the 13th academy product to make his debut under Pochettino. “We played with Skippy in midfield, with Ben Davies at centre-back,” added Pochettino.

“Then we won. But the belief is what I am most pleased about, because the team is really a team.

“When you feel that the team manages all the circumstan­ces or problems, you start to feel that you are really a team that is going to fight for big things.

“We can play with two strikers, one formation or another. For a team to arrive at that point, that is the most pleasing thing for us.”

Behind the scenes the club have been massively impressed with Skipp’s ability to mix it with older players.

Spurs did not look in the slightest weakened by his inclusion.
