Gary wanted as Shots soldier on

- By GRAHAM NICKLESS

BRISTOL ROVERS are set to swoop for manager Gary Waddock, who is fighting for survival at injury-hit Aldershot.

Shots chiefs were last night bracing themselves for an approach for Waddock from the League One strugglers, who sacked Darrell Clarke last week.

But Waddock’s major concern is fielding a team for tomorrow’s FA Trophy replay at Bedford Town after Saturday’s 3-3 first-round draw.

He said: “I only have 11 fit players to choose from and I will have no subs on the bench at Bedford.”

Sub Jermaine Osei notched two goals for the Southern League Division One side and manager Jon Taylor said: “I’m quietly confident about taking them back to Bedford.”

National League South’s Hemel Hempstead reached the second round for only the second time in their history by beating Eastleigh 2-1, with goals from Steve Cawley and a Jordan Parkes penalty.

Boreham Wood supersub Justin Shaibu completed his hat-trick in extra-time in the 3-1 win over Torquay, who had Ruairi Keating and Kyle Cameron sent off.

Holders Brackley needed two late goals to see off Hayes & Yeading 4-2 and boss Kevin Wilkin said: “We are not showing the form we did in winning this competition.”

Ebbsfleet’s new manager Garry Hill was knocked out by a 1-0 defeat against his old club Dagenham and said: “It’s frustrating because we had enough chances to win.”
