WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY
I THOUGHT what I’d do today, to steer us away from the obvious, is recommend a few shows that don’t have the word “Christmas” in their title.
Turns out that’s a total waste of time. There aren’t any. None at all. Well, almost none.
Tonight there are even two called “Christmas Reunion”, airing simultaneously.
One of these is LONG LOST FAMILY CHRISTMAS REUNION (9pm, ITV), where Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell host a big festive banquet for some of those they’ve brought back together, or at least their researchers have, since the show began in 2011.
The other is LOVE ISLAND: THE CHRISTMAS REUNION
(9pm, ITV2), where Caroline Flack and this year’s islanders look back on their time at the villa and what they’ve been up to since they put their clothes back on.
Elsewhere, INSIDE THE CHRISTMAS FACTORY (9pm,
BBC2), includes a look at how Nestlé churn out Quality Street on an industrial scale and how the Royal Mail prints our Christmas stamps. And yes, it actually IS blooming interesting, don’t argue. And FOOD UNWRAPPED DOES CHRISTMAS (8pm, Channel 4) steps into similar territory when Matt Tebbutt visits Mr Kipling’s mince pie factory. Disappointingly, he turns up on a day when Mr Kipling himself appears to be off sick. I’m amazed he didn’t ring before he set out, just to check. What an idiot. Also, Kate Quilton looks at the history of a turkey alternative, the multi-roast bird.
There’s all that, plus MOST SHOCKING CHRISTMAS TV MOMENTS (10pm, Channel 5), which is pretty much what you’d expect it to be (he says, helpfully).
