Bosses in Euro D-Day

- By JEREMY CROSS

MANCHESTER UNITED and Tottenham could be landed with the draw from hell in the Champions League today.

The draw for the last 16 will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, and both Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino will be looking forward to it with a mixture of excitement and dread.

United and Spurs made life difficult for themselves by finishing runners-up in their respective groups.

So did Liverpool, but they will fear no one in the knockout stages having won the competition five times and reached the final last season.

With English teams unable to face each other, or those who appeared in the same group, it means United and Spurs could be paired with one of Europe’s powerhouses.

Paired

United could be drawn against Porto – who Mourinho led to Champions League glory in 2004 – Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Paris St-Germain.

Spurs can also be paired with Porto, Real, Bayern, PSG, Borussia Dortmund or Juventus.

The same scenario awaits Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League leaders, although the Reds cannot be drawn against PSG but, unlike Spurs, could face Barca.

Premier League champions Manchester City, the only English team to win their group, could be drawn against Roma, Schalke, Ajax or Atletico Madrid.

Atletico have reached two of the last four finals and won the Europa League last season. The final will also take place in their own stadium next June.

Arsenal and Chelsea are seeded for the last-32 draw in the Europa League, which takes place after the Champions League draw, meaning they could be paired with Celtic.
