WORLD CUP: SUMMER OF LOVE (9pm, ITV) isn’t a look back at this year’s tournament in full but a reminder of the impact made by Gareth Southgate’s England, which pretty much nobody had been expecting. Beforehand, if asked how England would fare, most pundits were going, ooh, quarter-finals at best. But such modest expectations turned out to be a blessing as far as Southgate’s side were concerned, lifting the usual crippling burden from their shoulders and letting them surprise a few people. As it turned out, they came within 25 minutes of a place in the final before Croatia went and scored, the gits, and I stomped out and took the dog for a walk.

Still, enough time should have passed now for the pain to have eased, more or less, and for England fans to bask in some mostly happy memories. The show includes clips of England’s best bits, along with contributions from numerous respected names who truly know their football, and also from Piers Morgan. ELSEWHERE tonight, JAMIE’S QUICK AND EASY CHRISTMAS (8pm, Channel 4) finds Jamie Oliver offering tips on how to simplify that big turkey dinner, preparation-wise.

As ever, it’s a cute family affair, so while putting together his first recipe, a baked camembert thing, he’s actually holding his two-yearold son in one arm.

“This is baby River,” Jamie tells us proudly.

River doesn’t actually say much in response, but that’ll be because he’s camera-shy.

Either that or, having been christened River Rocket Blue Dallas Oliver, he’s still flatly refusing to speak to either parent.
