Billie’s a hit with Jodie

DOCTOR Who star Jodie Whittaker is desperate to get Billie Piper back in the Tardis.

Jodie even joked she would axe her new assistants to make room for Billie’s character Rose.

Piper starred as The Doctor’s first companion alongside both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.

Her character fell in love with The Doctor but was left heartbroken after she was sucked into another dimension and left stranded in a parallel universe.

When quizzed on her pick for the ultimate companion, Whittaker confessed: “I’m going to have to go modern. Billie Piper. I think she’s an amazing actress. I love her character. I thought the dynamic between the two Doctors worked as well, like it transitioned beautifully from Chris to David.”

She quipped to her current co-stars Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill: “So see you later guys.”

Jodie also admitted that her Broadchurch co-star Tennant is her favourite ever Doctor.

The mum-of-one said: “I’ve known David for years but, at first, I wasn’t allowed to speak to anyone because I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone that I got the job.

“So, it was only the weekend before it was officially announced that I was able to speak to, briefly, Peter (Capaldi), Matt Smith and David.”

She added: “I think the thing that was the over-riding message was that you are going to have the time of your life. Also, that this is like no other job, and it’s completely unique for every single person who plays the part.”

The actress will be back for the Doctor Who special on New Year’s Day on BBC One at 7pm.

Producer Chris Chibnall told Doctor Who magazine: “Most of all, you want it to feel like a treat: a big, thrilling, explosive, moving, cheeky, surprising treat.”
