Iceland tragedy family ‘so loved’
FIRST pictures have emerged of a British mum killed with her baby and sister-in-law when their 4x4 plunged from a bridge.
Rajshree Laturia, her 10-month-old baby daughter Shreeprabha and Khushboo Laturia died when their SUV smashed through railings in Iceland and fell around 26ft.
The women’s husbands, city workers Shreeraj and Supreme, last night remained critically ill while two more children, aged eight and nine, were seriously injured.
Distraught friends said the family, who lived in London and were of Indian origin, had been on a four-day Christmas sightseeing tour of the country.
One pal said: “They were all so sharp, even the kids.
“So intelligent, popular and a family much-loved by so many people. I can’t believe this has happened and they are gone.”
The family were driving over a bridge in Nupsvotn – close to the Jokulsarlon lagoon made famous in Bond films Die Another Day and View To A Kill – when the crash happened.
Witnesses yesterday claimed the hired Toyota was being driven “wildly”, overtaking other vehicles and hitting 50mph as it approached the single-track crossing.
Guide Adolf Ingi Erlingsson, who found the car in a heap, said: “It was horrible. The driv- er was alive but trapped more or less under the dashboard.
“I couldn’t see his face. It was a very difficult situation.”
He added: “I tried to talk a bit to the driver to calm him down. He was trapped inside the car.”
The crash happened around two hours before sunrise on Thursday morning.
Police said the road was not thought to be icy but humidity could have made the surface slippery for the 4x4.
Local police investigators have not yet been able to interview the survivors.
