I NEED a girlfriend who can fix me.

I want someone who will sort out my whole life – my finances, my clothes, my flat and my job.

My brother is with a woman who does everything for him. He’s like a new man.

She’s helped him to lose weight, gain a promotion and look great.

He says that having regular sex is phenomenal and he’s never felt better. I’m 28 and have always avoided committed relationships like the plague – too expensive and too much grief. But now I can see the benefit of having someone who can do things for me and take the strain.

I’ve always been a bit useless when it comes to getting organised. I hate the way I look and feel and have treated a lot of lovers very badly in the past.

I suppose I can be selfish and arrogant but I’m sure that all of that can change with the right woman on my arm. How do I find the perfect person with 2019 just around the corner? I honestly believe that a fresh start is the right way to go.

JANE SAYS: I absolutely agree that a fresh start is a good idea. But you can’t rely on someone else to sort YOU out.

As the great RuPaul says at the end of every Drag Race: “If you can’t love yourself, then how in the hell you gonna love someone else?” and he’s absolutely right.

If you have a problem with your attitude, your lifestyle and the way you treat others, then you have to take ownership and make the adjustments.

It’s simply not realistic of you to expect a girl to come into your life and do all the hard work for you. Why should she?

Lose that weight, clean up your flat and manage your money properly. Your life is in your hands and if you’re not a very nice, positive person, then change. Otherwise you’re not going to be a very attractive proposition to anyone.

?? ?? I reckon he’s changed his mind about moving out… I’ll just go along with him What gave you that idea? So, you’re not moving out then? Well, he definitely still fancies me. It must have been a horrid joke We just made love, didn’t we? What’s that got to do with anything? I’m so confused, but what on earth am I going to do?
