Kane quickly puts Spurs back on track

-

rising to the challenge and the big midfielder put on an outstanding display here.

He was involved in two of Spurs’ first-half goals with positive runs and passes.

And there was plenty of confidence and quality about the visitors’ slick play all over the park as they pulled Cardiff apart.

Pochettino’s side took the lead with their first attack. Kane began the move and found Kieran Trippier on the right.

Home captain Sean Morrison could only smash his cross straight at Kane and it ricocheted past Neil Etheridge in the home goal for a slightly fortunate opener, his 18th goal of the season.

It means the England striker has now scored against all 28 of the opponents he has ever faced in the Premier League after notching against the Bluebirds for the first time in his career.

Cardiff responded with a couple of crosses from the left from Josh Murphy but it was classy Tottenham who scored again in the 12th minute after a well-worked move and superb finish from Eriksen.

The Dane picked the ball up on the corner of the box after a break which saw Kane feed Sissoko on the right before Son moved the ball on to Eriksen.

He was closed down by Bruno Ecuele Manga and Harry Arter but created space with a clever drag back to wrong-foot the pair and hit a low right-foot shot into the bottom corner for his sixth goal this term.

The contest was over by the 26th minute when Son made it 3-0.

Impressive

He was released into the box by Kane after a driving run forward by the impressive Sissoko.

Son then beat Morrison to fire home a low right-foot shot into the far corner – his 11th goal of the season.

After the break, Spurs might have extended their lead but top scorer Kane fired over and had other shots blocked.

Son had a right-foot shot saved by a combined effort from Sol Bamba and keeper Etheridge.

Sissoko was still running hard and pinging cross-field passes in the final minutes as he also charged forward before shooting one effort over the top.

But Spurs never had to hit top gear in the second half as Cardiff seemed content to avoid further embarrassment and a major hit to their goal difference.

It also means Tottenham have followed Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United in winning in Wales this term.

And there was more than enough in this display to suggest they should have high hopes for the rest of 2019 if they maintain these clinical, ruthless standards.

Cardiff, who host Huddersfield in their next Premier League game, have eyes on 17th place come May.

It is likely to go to the wire but with some shrewd additions they could also be capable of achieving their ambitions.
