IF you still think electric cars are as exciting as the morning milk float, prepare to be converted.

Going battery powered is the future of motoring and if you want proof then feast your eyes on Jaguar’s remarkable I-PACE.

This fully electric SUV won a swathe of awards in 2018 and having taken delivery of one over the festive period, StarTech is not surprised.

This futuristic motor not only looks like it’s come straight from the set of the next Batman movie, but it packs more technology than the Starship Enterprise.

You get all the features you’d expect from a luxury car and gadgets that make driving a dream. Hit the start button and this car lights up like a Christmas tree with a fully customisable digital dashboard and head-up display of vital data such as speed limits and directions.

Apple CarPlay also means that your iPhone instantly connects to the entertainment system and voice controls allow you to keep your hands firmly on the steering wheel.

Once on the road, the I-PACE can almost drive itself with adaptive cruise control keeping you a safe distance from the car in front, and lane assist making sure drivers don’t drift off the motorway.

There’s even a camera tucked inside the front grille that can jam on the brakes if it senses an impending collision and a driver condition monitor keeps watch, giving a warning when it thinks you need a break.

Even when you arrive, you can keep fully in touch with the I-PACE via a dedicated app which displays the status of your vehicle on your phone.

Having driven more than 200 miles in the I-PACE we’re seriously impressed. You’ll be mesmerised by the sheer power, with the car racing from

0-60 in just 4.5 seconds.

It’s all pretty incredible but there is still one big niggle.

Driving around a city is simple as you’ll find endless places to charge the battery but head deep into the Somerset countryside and range anxiety becomes a real issue.

Charging via a household socket adds only about six miles of range per hour.

Once a network of charge stations is installed, this is the future of motoring.

This car is so good we’d trade in our gas guzzler in a flash. Just a shame it costs

£64,495.
