Sweet on critics

Toffees boss not

-

MARCO SILVA has hit back at sniping from Sam Allardyce by insisting: “I’ll take criticism from David Moyes, but not you.”

The Everton boss was animated and emotional after an important, if laboured,

FA Cup victory over Lincoln.

He aggressively rejected criticism from his predecessor by pointedly stating that Allardyce has no love for the Toffees.

“We need to look if these people love this club,” he said. “If some people have another agenda, don’t want good results, just instability within our club, they are not worth listening to.

Vicious

“OK he (Allardyce) is one colleague, one coach as well. Maybe if it is David Moyes I would listen because he did something really important at this club. But in this case it is not important at all.”

The former Toffees and England manager showed his vicious side by suggesting Silva would “never survive” playing the style of football he does.

But Everton showed in a first-half spell against a battling Lincoln side they can get results.

And Silva insisted that what Everton need now is long-term stability, not more pressure from fans and critics for a change of manager.

“We have to look for what is important for us as a Yp ;8M@; D8;;F:B whole scenario, not just the last few weeks. The last form was not good enough but you can not think only of the last 20 or 25 days.” Victory ended a shocking run of one win in eight games for Silva, thanks to a fine headed finish by youngster Ademola Lookman after 12 minutes and then an even better Bernard strike for his first Everton goal two minutes later.

But League Two leaders Lincoln are such a well-organised and confident side that they were not rattled by their shocking start.

Instead, they exploited confusion amid their opponents’ zonal-marking system to hit back when the excellent Michael Bostwick scored just before the half-hour mark.

They could have had more too, going close at the end from another set-piece.

Imps boss Danny Cowley said: “We went toe-to-toe with worldclass opponents and the underlying memory of the game will be my side’s determination. “We can take so much from this game, because sides like this test you so much. Our defensive organisation was tested to the limit and we emerged with a new level of physical quality and mental strength, which is good for the future.”
