WAYNE Rooney was arrested for being drunk and swearing at an airport.
The ex-Man Utd footballer, who has been playing in the US, was detained as he arrived at Washington Dulles airport after a flight from Saudi Arabia.
Rooney posed for a police mugshot after being taken into custody.
A spokesman for Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said: “He was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Centre on a charge of public intoxication stemming from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police.”
A source revealed Rooney arrived at Dulles after drinking just three mixed drinks and taking a sleeping pill.
Costs
The former England captain was detained on December 16 when customs officers noticed he had red eyes and showed signs of “being impaired”.
Later Rooney was bailed without a fee but paid a fine of £19.65 last Friday and was ordered to pay costs of £71.50.
A member of staff from his current team – DC United in Washington DC – picked Rooney up after his release on bail and the star then joined his wife and four sons for a previously scheduled flight to England for the holidays.
Based on his salary at the US club, it would take him four minutes and 43secs to make the money to pay his fine.
Rooney is 13 months into a drink-driving ban after he was arrested in Cheshire.
A spokesman for DC United would only say: “We believe this is a private matter for Wayne that DC United will handle internally. We have no further comment.”
