SHERIDAN Smith plays an office cleaner in CLEANING UP, a new ITV drama kicking off tonight (9pm).

Doesn’t sound very dramatic, you may be thinking. But you’d be wrong.

At one point in an early scene, she actually argues with her boss about a stain on the carpet that she’s failed to remove. But rather than keep scrubbing away as he demands, what she does – get this! – is she sneakily hides it with a marker pen. When the boss finds out, he gets SO cross!!

Hmm, I’m not really selling this one to you, am I..?

All right, how about an extra detail? She’s also about to cook up a scam to nick an absolute stack of money. That’s more like it, right?

This office where she cleans is some sort of investment bank-type place, and one evening, after most of the staff have gone home, her character Sam happens to overhear a dodgy stockbroke­r making a furtive phone call. Turns out he’s doing a spot of insider trading – potentiall­y very lucrative but also very illegal, carrying a jail sentence of up to ten years. Since Sam happens to be seriously hard up, her online gambling addiction having racked up a fortune in credit card bills, wrecked her marriage and left her husband threatenin­g to take away the kids, she figures this is info she could rather handily cash in on… Elsewhere tonight, Channel
