Forster shown door by Ralph

- By ALEX CROOK

SOUTHAMPTON keeper Fraser Forster has been told he has no future at St Mary’s.

Forster, 30, has not played for Saints since December 2017, but was hoping for the chance to stake his claim for a place in new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans.

But the Austrian has ruled out a comeback for the 6ft 7in stopper and said: “I had to make the choice to have two strong keepers with Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy. They both did well.

“It will always be like this. If you have good experience made with one keeper, then you don’t look for another one.

“It can be that Fraser can take a game in the Under-23s because he needs to get back into the position where he is an option for other clubs. That’s what we try to force in the future.” Forster cost Saints

£10m when he joined from Celtic in

2010 and has made more than 100 Premier League appearances.

He is under contract at St Mary’s until 2022 and is the highest paid player in Saints’ history on wages of around £75,000 a week.

Another player who Hasenhuttl has told to find a new club is Dutch defender Wesley Hoedt.

Misery

Former Lazio star Hoedt, 24, has not made an appearance since Hasenhuttl replaced Mark Hughes as manager last month.

Hasenhuttl, who has already offloaded Manolo Gabbiadini and Steven Davis, said: “It’s right that nearly every player played a game until now and Wesley didn’t.

“It’s the same for Gabbiadini and Davo. The guys went away because they find other solutions that are better for them. With Wesley it can be the same.

“We don’t send any player away but if he feels he is not used like he wants to be used, then he should think about it.”

Italian Gabbiadini has joined Serie A Sampdoria on a £2.7m loan deal, with a commitment to pay another £8m to make the move permanent in the summer.

Hasenhuttl said: “He is a good player with fantastic technique, but the intensive pressing play is not his type of game.”

CHARLIE AUSTIN was last night banned by the FA for two matches.

The Saints striker was caught on camera sticking two fingers up to Manchester City fans last month.

He will miss tomorrow’s game at Leicester and Wednesday’s FA Cup third-round replay against Derby.
