SOL BAMBA says Cardiff’s players are determined to stay up to finally give Neil Warnock some Premier League success.

The promoted Bluebirds are battling hard to beat the drop and are 17th ahead of a crucial visit by bottom club Huddersfield today.

Boss Warnock, 70, has performed wonders to take them up and make them competitive since joining in a relegation battle in October 2016.

His previous spells in the top tier with Notts County, Sheffield United and QPR have all ended in either relegation or the sack.

But Bamba, one of Warnock’s first signings for Cardiff, says the City boss has moulded a team in his own combative image.

And he is hopeful Cardiff’s battling side can give their boss something to celebrate in May.

The defender, 34 tomorrow, said: “When we came here with the gaffer nobody expected us to be where we are. We are happy and feel we can continue in the Premier League.

Enjoying

“To be fair to the gaffer, I don’t think he had his chance in the Premier League.

“He always got sacked early when he was at other clubs in the Premier League.

“But here he has had time to build a team and the team is playing like he wants.

“We have got character like him because he himself has great character.

“We are as his image and credit to him for doing well in the Premier League and long may it continue. “We are in this together as a club with the fans. We are enjoying it and doing it together for the gaffer because he has been great for us and the whole city.” Huddersfield have been struggling for goals after managing just 13 in 21 league games this term. And Bamba is upbeat, despite the 3-0 loss at home to Spurs on New Year’s Day before an embarrassing FA Cup exit at Gillingham.

Bamba, who was rested for the cup loss, added: “Against any team at home we fancy ourselves. “The fans know against teams like Spurs it is not going to determine if we stay up or not.

“They were top-quality opposition so it was difficult, but we have got character in this team and I am sure we are going to bounce back. “Huddersfield is massive against a direct opponent who we are fighting to stay in the league.

“We are going to go into that game to try and win it and at home we fancy ourselves definitely.

“We have rested and I am sure we are going to be ready for the game.”
