SWIFT EXIT CAN HELP TARQUIN

-

CRAYFORD continues the countdown to its main event, the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket, with another

714m open tonight, live on RPGTV – and Swift Tarquin (8.51) fits the bill as the most likely winner.

John Mullins’ runner has stepped up in distance well of late and was just edged out at Monmore last week. He can go one better with a handy slot early on the cards. Local Swift Libby can chase him home.

Maurice Newman’s SYLVIAS LILY (8.00) has a sporting chance over

540m in the maiden; Michael Fawsitt’s BURGESS ROMEO (8.34) has a plot draw over

380m, while in-form DROOPYS EDGE

(9.45) can continue her recent good work for Dean Childs.

At Sheffield’s RPGTV meeting, pick of the

16-race card might prove to be Rebecca Perkins’ downgraded CHARITY JOLEEEN (6.39), while the Barrie Draper-trained ARDRAHAN ZARLA

(8.24) could be tough to hold after her return to four bends last week.

Open-race fans are well catered for by Central Park’s RPGTV card tomorrow night where PRO PENNY

(7.36), (right), catches the eye from the Kevin Hutton camp in the sprint, while in the maiden final DROOPYS SPARK (8.09) has an good draw.

Other suggestions on a decent night’s racing are Tony Collett’s betterdrawn LENSON JOHN

(8.27) to reverse form with King Cash from last week, while another Hutton runner MADABOUT PHILIP

(8.44) has a great make-up in his heat. ®ÊGREYHOUND racing’s coffers were this week boosted by an additional

£3m annually following a long-awaited deal with the major online bookmakers.

It was announced by Mims Davies MP, the Minister for Sport, with the money used to fund various welfare initiatives as detailed in the GBGB’s Greyhound Commitment. GBGB managing director Mark Bird said: “The GBGB is delighted and extremely grateful for the conclusion of the mediation and the commitment of the major bookmakers.

“The GBGB has outlined clear ambitions as to where this new income will be spent, with the majority supporting greyhound welfare and initiatives.” ®ÊA FIGHT to save the historic Belle Vue Stadium has been launched following controversial plans to develop the site in the Gorton area of Manchester for housing.

Fans of greyhound racing and other leisure interests which use the stadium are urging the council to save local businesses and livelihoods by fending off developers.

A Friends of Belle Vue page has been set up on Facebook, through which those wishing to support campaigners can write to local councillors and MPs. ®ÊCONGRATULATIONS to Peter O’Dowd, the former long-time Romford racing manager, who has been announced as the latest recipient of the Greyhound Writers’ Association Services to Greyhound Racing Award.
