MANCHESTER UNITED should not get carried away by the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feel-good factor – Mauricio Pochettino is the man they need.

Just don’t expect him to prove it tomorrow because United could easily go to Wembley and beat Tottenham.

This is Solskjaer’s first real test because, with all due respect to the teams he’s played so far, you’d have expected Jose Mourinho to beat the five sides he has faced as well.

Maybe not quite as emphatically as they did, but, still, Spurs are the first really tough team Solskjaer is up against.

Two weeks ago, I would have given United no chance in this game but watching Tottenham against Chelsea has changed my mind.

They were hanging on against Chelsea. I thought Chelsea actually ripped them to shreds in the second half. They just couldn’t score.

Problem

Is this why Maurizio Sarri has never won anything? Couldn’t he see they were crying out for a genuine centre-forward?

Chelsea were getting so much possession around the box and creating chances but they didn’t bring Olivier Giroud on until it was too late. That was poor from Sarri.

United won’t have that problem. They have a genuine goal threat in Romelu Lukaku, who looks reborn under the new manager.

Lukaku could cause Spurs all sorts of problems. United will get into the same positions Chelsea did but they have a genuine centre-forward capable of burying some of those chances.

There’s something missing still about Tottenham. I don’t know what it is. They have really bad spells in games. I don’t think it’s tiredness either. Something just isn’t quite right.

For all that, though, you have to hold your hands up and say what a great job Pochettino has done there. He has built that team without a whole lot of money and they are in there
