NUDD BACK IN THE BIG TIME
BOB NUDD is back on the international stage having been selected to fish for the England Veterans side.
Nuddy – a four-time world championship gold medallist – made the squad after trials at The Glebe fishery in Leicestershire.
The Veterans World Championships will be held on Italy’s River Arno in June and the side includes Bob, Danny Sixsmith, Billy Reynolds, Steve Sanders and Roger Marlow. LITTLE is known about the zander population in the River Thames, but the species looks to be flourishing following the capture of a 14lb 6oz beauty. The mighty zed took a paternostered roach bait and fell to the rod of Ascot angler Robert Keeley, 28. TACKLE shop chain Fishing Republic has been saved from closure after the business was purchased by Go Outdoors.
Fishing Republic hit financial trouble last year and reduced outlets from 19 to 14 superstores. It is understood rivals Angling Direct and Eric’s Angling had shown interest in acquiring the business. SCHOOLBOY Owen Gath gave his dad a lesson when he landed a 26lb 4oz pike from the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
The 14-year-old was on a family trip to the waterway, near Armley, when the esox grabbed his roach pattern lure. The pike beat his dad’s best by more than 10lb. A NEW record barbel for Gunthorpe Weir, on the River Trent, has been landed by Jamie Coley. He latched into the 17lb 10oz whiskers after it picked up his legered 15mm Mad Baits boilie.
