Charlie surprise at Ful guys

- By IAN WHITTELL

BURNLEY star Charlie Taylor admits he has been left stunned by Fulham’s nightmare campaign.

But that will not stop the Clarets defender trying to put another nail in the Cottagers’ Premier League coffin at Turf Moor this afternoon.

Sean Dyche’s team ended 2018 with consecutive league wins to lift the gloom and victory today would move them seven points clear of the struggling visitors.

And Taylor admits that after his team were hammered 4-2 at Craven Cottage in August, he is surprised to see them stuck in the relegation places. The left-back said: “That day I personally was impressed with their performance. They looked a really good team.

“I didn’t think I would be sitting here now speaking about them being in the bottom three. We were poor that day, we want to change that now.

Meeting

“There seems to be a different feel, it is a different time of the season and we want to go and get one back on them and get all three points.”

Burnley’s improvement followed their disastrous 5-1 home Boxing Day defeat by Everton and a clear-the-air meeting between the players.

Taylor, 25, added: “I think the Everton game was really the final straw for us.

“We were way below our standards that day and it was a very poor performance. I think things needed to be said and people needed to stand up and be counted. So far it has had a positive effect.

“I think everyone looks at things differently. For whatever reason we knew the first half of the season wasn’t good enough and at that point we were in the bottom three and we knew that if things didn’t drastically change, we would still be there.”
