A CAFÉ boss has been blasted for saying British workers are lazy.
Jullian Preston-Powers hit out at a job applicant who failed to attend a trial shift because of bad weather.
He sent a series of messages to Victoria Atkins, 22, ranting that a “poor work ethic... is highly synonymous with being Brit- ish”. He said: “The very poorest type of employee is a British one, full stop.
“What British people do specifically is they really take advantage of the fact they have a benefit system and they’re not motivated to earn money.”
He said staff “cannot ever call in sick” and he docks their wages from a previous shift if they do so without a doctor’s note.
He also went on to praise one staff member who had not had a day off in three years, because that was normal for “thin, healthy people who don’t eat bacon”.
Victoria was offered the shift at the Intenso Espresso cafe in Hove, East Sussex, after successfully passing an interview. But she was forced to ask to rearrange as it was impossible to travel in the bad weather.
In response she received what she described as “rude and nasty” messages from Mr Preston-Powers, who is married to the owner.
She said: “His comments about British people having no work ethic were shocking. When he made the comment about eating bacon I was very, very offended. I never even met him and I’m happy as a size 10. It’s like saying all British people are fat when, especially in Brighton, we are known for lots of vegans.”
The cafe employs a Slovak and a Pole as full-time staff and Mr Preston-Powers claimed “every single” Brit he has employed in the past has had issues.
He defended his actions, saying: “The work ethics of Brits are inferior to those from Eastern Europe.”
A TUC spokesman said: “If he’s looking for the title of Britain’s Worst Boss, it sounds like he’s going about it the right way.
“It’s illegal to discriminate against job applicants based on their ethnicity. Britain’s workers have a very strong work ethic.
“They put in some of the longest hours in Europe and billions of pounds worth of unpaid overtime each year.”
JULLIAN Preston-Powers couldn’t have got it more wrong.
The café supervisor claims all British workers are lazy.
He even accused worker Victoria Atkins of having a “poor work ethic” because she is British.
What an insult.
No wonder he has been branded the UK’s worst boss.
He needs his head tested.
The majority of Brits work incredibly hard to support themselves and their families.
We do longer hours than almost any other country in Europe.
Many keep slogging away well beyond retirement age.
Of course, there will always be some who are workshy and don’t pull their weight.
But the same applies to every country and every race.
To claim Brits’ work ethic is inferior to others is nonsense. It’s Jullian and his lazy opinions that need to change.
