MY stupid mother has taken up with a man who I’m convinced is going to end up in prison.

I’ve looked him up and he’s bad to the core. His wife threw him out last year after she discovered he’d been ripping off her father’s firm.

Now the dad is after him – and I don’t blame the man. My mum met him online just before Christmas. She keeps trying to tell me he’s innocent and misunderstood.

She swears she’s going to stand by him and will visit him if he goes to prison.

She’s completely in his thrall. I keep telling her she’ll make a pathetic gangster’s moll, but she won’t accept that he’s using and fleecing her.

My mother has a history of making poor choices and hanging out with unsuitable people, but he’s definitely the worst so far. What more can I do?

JANE SAYS: You care about your mother and want her to be happy and safe, but you can’t wrap her in cotton wool.

If you’ve warned her about this man and she continues to do her own thing, then you have to step back.

You can’t physically drag her out of his arms.

Let her know you worry and care, but can’t live your life watching out for her if she won’t heed your warnings. Is it worth taking a dossier of information regarding this man to her house and showing her what you’ve discovered?
