Mac fires Cas to victory

-

12-10 lead and only a desperate ankle tap by Tiger Peter Mata’utia stopped the full-back grabbing a try of his own.

Cas responded with a second try from Shenton in the final minute of the first half.

But McShane missed his second conversion attempt in three and, with regular kicker Gale out all season, it is a problem that could keep hitting them where it hurts.

The two-point lead, though, still gave the Tigers the lift they needed after their earlier wobble and they came out for the second half in mean mood.

Jamie Shaul narrowly denied Alex Foster a chance but the Tigers were soon in for the kill again with James Clare darting over in the corner. Hooker McShane missed the conversion but was spot on with the extras minutes later after his grubber kick put Junior Moors in for their fifth try.

But Hull, who also hadn’t played badly in their opening round defeat by Rovers, refused to buckle.

Sneyd’s break put Jordan Lane over and Sneyd added his third kick from three to cut the gap to six points.

Jordan Rankin took over the kicking when Castleford got a penalty to nudge them further ahead in the 61st minute.

The two sides slugged each other to a standstill in the final quarter, with the Tigers doing just enough to claim the victory.
