Fake gun Brit killed in police shooting
A BRIT was shot dead in a suspected “suicide by cop” after he pointed a fake gun at officers.
Michael Fudge died after he apparently approached armed police at a Central Bank of Netherlands branch in Amsterdam on Thursday.
Officers fired several shots after they received reports that the BritishDutch citizen was threatening people with it.
Police spokeswoman Souad Boumedien said: “Colleagues encountered the suspect with a firearm. He walked in the direction of them and their colleagues felt it was required to open fire.”
Fudge, 31, immediately fell to the ground and died at the scene despite attempts to revive him.
Dutch police said an official investigation had started into whether the violence was warranted.
Fudge, who lived in Amstrerdam, was reportedly known to police and had mental health issues but was not thought of as a major criminal.
Friends described his recent behaviour as confused, with one saying he had been “thinking a lot about the idea” of forcing a police officer to shoot him.
