Married Louise travelled the world before becoming a midwife. She is determined to prove herself and finds it hard not to speak her mind. She was involved in one of the show’s most controversial scenes when she was punched in the face by a man.
The boxing match, where Louise chose to go up against a man, saw her punched several times in the face before falling down, something that she claims she is thankful for.
She explains: “We were aware we would be treated as equals to the men and that there would be no exceptions for any of us.
“I was physically and mentally drained. I didn’t want to fight anyone, male or female.
“We were all friends by this point. Gender was irrelevant. “I had to do it and it was just another task to me. I would have been disappointed if Nathaniel had held back.”
Motivation: Being a midwife, she wanted to break the idea that she wouldn’t be able to take on a challenge so brutal.
Louise says: “Absolutely brutal. After the first 24 hours I thought about quitting.
“The sleep deprivation was instant following a long flight. “The wondering if I could do it kicked in immediately and I thought: ‘S***! What am I doing here? I’ve picked something way beyond my capability.’ “Each challenge was more difficult than the last and not just because it was physically demanding but because
I became more mentally drained and my body was stressed. “Once, on the toilet, I was asked by a male recruit to undo his trousers because his hands were so sore.
“I had to finish going to the toilet first and he just stood there and waited. It was a moment of realising that, male or female, we all needed each other.
“Now I’ve had time to reflect on the series and I can see how much I have gained, I would definitely do it again.
