The ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall will be hosted by Joanna Lumley for the second time. In one of showbiz’s biggest nights of the year, it will be the battle of the bashes as the Grammys also take place tomorrow night in the States. Up for best film is Spike Lee’s racial drama BlackkKlansman, historical romp The Favourite, arty flick Roma, 1960s road trip comedy-drama Green Book and Lady Gaga’s A Star Is Born. Gaga will skip the BAFTAs in favour of the Grammys. It’s thought her and co-star Bradley Cooper decided to attend one event each. The Favourite looks likely to win big with 12 nominations. A Star Is Born has seven. Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Laurel and Hardy film

Stan & Ollie are among those up for best British film. Bohemian Rhapsody was panned by critics, but has taken a whopping £643million worldwide. Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, Viola Davis,

Olivia Colman and Melissa McCarthy are up for leading actress while Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Rami Malek,

Steve Coogan and Viggo Mortensen are in the running for leading actor. There has been controversy over the lack of a female in the best director category. In fact, no woman director has been nominated since Kathryn Bigelow in 2013. Claire Foy, Eddie Redmayne, Bill Nighy, Cate Blanchett, Nicholas Hoult, Gary Oldman, Salma Hayek, Jude Law and Sir Patrick Stewart. The official after-party takes place at the swish Grosvenor House on Park Lane. The look of the party has been inspired by nominee The Favourite, with rabbits, chandeliers and candles as decorations. There’s also a Warner Bros bash in Soho with Bradley Cooper, Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law on the guest list and a Fox party with Rami Malek, Amy Adams and Christian Bale. Nominees receive a bulging goodie bag with contents including a Nespresso machine, wine, champagne, toiletries and a trip abroad.
