LARDY corpses are being blamed for the rising cost of funerals.

Undertakers say the obesity crisis means they have to hire up to eight pallbearers and buy hoists to lift bodies weighing up to 30stone.

Christine Parker, of Abbey Funeral Services in Tonbridge, Kent, said: “There are some coffins that look like small bungalows.

“On one occasion, a coffin couldn’t get through the doors of the church.”
