He’s below kids & dogs

GARETH Southgate admits he is only in charge when it comes to football.

The England boss says at home he’s “lower in the pecking order – below the kids and the dogs”.

Revealing his life away from the spotlight of international football, Southgate said he enjoys a quiet existence with his family and is happy to play second fiddle to them.

Southgate, 48, was asked if anything would surprise people about the man who led his young team to the brink of World Cup glory last summer.

He said: “I am as I am. You have to be authentic and lead the way that suits your personality. People will smell very quickly if they don’t think you’re genuine.

“But I do accept at home I’m lower in the pecking order.”

Southgate and wife Alison, an ex-boutique shop assistant, have two children.
