Anger at tree smash

-

A MAN who battled for 30 years to get a “dangerous” tree felled is devastated after it crashed into his house during Storm Erik.

Melvin Toon, 68, said he made “countless” calls to Nottingham Council about the chestnut tree that was 25ft from his property.

Mr Toon, of Bulwell, Notts, said: “They told me it had got a preservation order on it.

“I was about to get up when all of a sudden there was a tremendous bang.

“The whole room shook and it was drenched with thick, black dust.

“Next to the tree is a sheer drop. It wasn’t rooted properly to have the strength to stay up. The damage is about £20,000.”

The council is to launch an investigation.
