Ben’s getting steamed up

-

KALVIN PHILLIPS admits his emotions were all over the place after snatching a point for Leeds with his 101st-minute equaliser.

The midfielder’s thoughts were for team-mate Jack Clarke, who collapsed in the dugout and was taken to hospital after suffering a suspected seizure.

Fortunately Clarke was discharged on Saturday night and is expected at training today.

But there was genuine concern in the Leeds camp and Phillips said: “It was not a nice feeling in the changing room – everyone just wanted to know how Jacko was.

“I was happy to get a goal and rescue a point but it was a bit of a mix.”

The match was held up for seven minutes late on as paramedics attended to the stricken Clarke.

So it was testimony to the Leeds’ character that they regained their composure to get a draw.

Despite a recent wobble Leeds are convinced this is the season their 15-year top-flight exile will end.

Phillips added: “There’s a lot of stuff flying around and obviously people don’t like us – but that just motivates us to prove that we’re the best team in the league.”

Boro are unbeaten in the league since Boxing Day and while their home form is a concern – just three league wins in almost six months – they are still in the play-off places.

Lewis Wing’s goal had looked like the winner but, despite Leeds’ late leveller, Boro are upbeat ahead of a trip to Sheffield United on Wednesday.

Boro’s ex-Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel said: ‘‘We knew we had three massive games in a row and picking up four points from the last two is a good sign.

“But I’m enjoying it here with a fantastic dressing room, a very good team and a manager we all believe in.”
