TWO British trainers were celebrating wins on the continent while many of their colleagues are in lockdown due to the equine flu outbreak.

John Best’s Berrahri gained his fourth victory in St Moritz where they race on a frozen lake, while Lambourn’s Archie Watson headed for the slightly warmer climes of Cagnes-sur Mer to triumph in Listed company with Barys.

Berrahri was astutely ridden from the front by German ace Dennis Schiergen who described the snow kickback as ‘brutal’. His eight-year-old mount gamely held off late challenges from local hopes Fiesta and Sleeping Giant in the Grosser Preis Longines.
