Rob feared ‘fatal’ blow

AN injury which forced Robert Whittaker out of UFC 234 could have been ‘fatal’ according to president Dana White.

Whittaker had to undergo emergency surgery just hours before his middleweight title defence against Kelvin Gastelum, which was due to headline in Melbourne.

White said: “Rob had surgery for a twisted and collapsed bowel in addition to an internal hernia of the intestine.

“Up until five minutes before surgery Rob wanted to fight. But the advice was that a blow to his stomach could be fatal.”
