POLICE PLEA IN CIG ROW STAB DEATH

- By STEPHEN BEECH

MURDER Squad police are appealing for help in the hunt for the killer of a dad knifed to death in a row over cigarettes.

Dennis Anderson, 39, was on his way home from a party.

Mr Anderson, who was pronounced dead at the scene in upmarket East Dulwich, south London, was the fifth person to be murdered in the capital in just a fortnight.

Shop assistant manager Muhammad Khan said his cousin was working when an argument erupted inside his store.

He said: “They had an argument about cigarettes.

“My cousin was here, he was manager.

“The guy who had the knife came in about five or six minutes after the man who got stabbed.

“The guy with the knife asked the other for free cigarettes, like as a favour or something. I don’t know whether he knew him.

“They had an argument and he took out a knife. Everyone was trying to stop him.” No-one has been arrested in connection with the murder of Mr Anderson, who lived in Lewisham, south-east London, and police are appealing for witnesses and information. Detective Inspector Domenica Catino said: “We need to hear from anyone that may have been in the area on Sunday morning.

“We are aware of speculation around the motive for this attack and can now confirm that the suspect approached Mr Anderson in an off-licence shop before an altercation broke out and the suspect delivered a fatal attack.”
