A BABY was removed from a womb for life-changing treatment and put back.

Bethan Simpson opted for surgery when scans diagnosed spina bifida, a condition where a baby’s spinal cord does not fully develop in the womb.

She and husband Kieron were told the first option was to terminate. But they chose the fetal repair just 24 weeks into Bethan’s pregnancy. The 26-year-old is just the fourth mum in Britain to undergo the procedure after successful surgeries in Belgium.

Bethan, from Burnham, Essex, said: “Our lives were such a rollercoaster for the next few weeks.

“Our midwife made an appointment in London.

“Fast forward 48 hours and we were in London having scans on her head and spine.

“I had the most recognised surgeons from around the world from University College London Hospital and Belgium looking after me.

“She has the same potential as every one of us.

I feel our baby kick me day in and day out, that’s never changed.

“She’s extra special, she’s part of history and our daughter has shown just how much she deserves this life.” SPECIAL BUMP: Bethan
