Bowler caught out by gay hits

-

PRAISE: Joe Root ENGLAND cricket fans sang gay anthems at the West Indies fast bowler banned for four games over homophobic slurs.

Shannon Gabriel is said to have called Joe Root a “b***y boy”.

And the travelling Barmy Army let him know exactly what they thought.

As he came out to bat he was hit with gay favourite YMCA by the Village People.

Travelling supporters went on to sing It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls, Gimme Gimme Gimme (a man after midnight) by Abba and A Little Respect by Erasure.

The England captain, 28, earned praise for responding to the alleged jibe by saying: “Don’t use that as an insult.

“There is nothing wrong with being gay.”

He has not publicly stated what was said to him at the end of the Third Test – which England won by 232 runs – as he did not want the incident to overshadow the series.

The seamer, 30, will miss the first four matches of the one-day series between the teams later this month.

He has also been fined 75% of his match fee.
