SWANSEA ....... 4 BRENTFORD .... 1

Swans boss salutes King James

-

DANIEL JAMES is heading for the Premier League, according to Swansea boss Graham Potter.

The flying Swan left the Brentford defence in his wake to run 80 yards on his way to a stunning solo goal.

The winger missed out on a deadlineday move to Leeds last month, but Potter reckons his talents belong at the top level. “I would say his next move would have to be to the Premier League, if he were to move anywhere it would be there,” said Potter.

“The ability to sprint repeatedly, it’s as high a level as you’re going to see.

“He’s got lots to work on but he had an end product today and he was sensational.

“You forget that these things happen in transfer windows where clubs don’t agree a price. You can see why on that performance, the numbers are too low, that’s the reality in my opinion.

“Once that happens he just gets on with being a footballer. He has been incredible for us and we’re looking forward to working with him for the future.”

James’ stunning solo goal inspired a spectacular second-half Swans turnaround.

The Bees suffered a meltdown after dominating in the first half and making Swansea pay with a lightning counter-attack Yp A8D<J :8E;P finished off by Ollie Watkins. But boss Thomas Frank was left stunned as his side imploded in front of his eyes.

Luke Daniels’ unlucky own goal levelled things up before James ran 84 yards in 8.48 seconds and produced a cool finish to give the Swans the lead.

It got even worse when Ezri Konsa saw red for hacking down the flying Swan, before Bersant Celina and George Byers booked the Welsh side’s place in the FA Cup quarterfinals for the second successive season.

Three Brentford players received yellow cards before Konsa saw red for fouls on the unplayable James.

And Potter says it is up to referees to protect his star man.

“That’s the referee’s responsibility, to manage the game,” added the Swansea boss.

“I was a full-back, so I’d have probably got a yellow or a red myself to be fair.

“He’d have been too quick for me. I wouldn’t have been able to get contact on him.

“It’s a concern but that’s the referee’s job. Dan’s courage is incredible. He’s a top player.”
