MILLERS CAN BEAT DROP

- 2 2

RICHIE TOWELL admits Rotherham’s players felt sick after conceding an equaliser 10 minutes into added time.

With just one win in 16, third-from-bottom Rotherham looked to have bagged a desperately needed victory.

But when Dominic Iorfa bundled the ball home with the last kick of the game, it left the Millers with that sinking feeling again.

Midfielder Towell said: “I still feel a little sick now. We definitely deserved three points, no doubt about it.

“We were the better side. We were all down but the gaffer came in and told us that if we play like that every week, we will be fine.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that if we play like that, we will stay in the Championship.”

Rotherham boss Paul Warne admits he has no idea why referee Darren England added time on top of the initial eight minutes.

“I just don’t get it,” he said. “I had a digital watch on, I asked him, ‘How long?’. He said, ‘Eight minutes’. I respectfully accepted it. It is tough to take.

“I don’t know where the extra time has come from. If there is extra time on the eight, then I don’t know where from.

“There was no injury, no goal, no substitution. I wasn’t going to make a substitution because I thought he would just add another 30 seconds on.”

But Owls boss Steve Bruce said: “There was a legitimate reason we were playing 10 minutes. Jordan (Thorniley) was down and when there are head injuries like that, the referee is entitled to add time on.” The Millers were outstanding but fell behind in the 36th minute when Fernando Forestieri swept home from six yards.

The home side were level just 60 seconds later when Jon Taylor fired home and then laid siege to the Sheffield Wednesday goal in the second half.

They looked to have won it when Towell’s effort from just inside the area went in off the post 16 minutes from the end of normal time.

But two minutes past the eight due to be added on, Iorfa bundled home the equaliser, with Forestieri then sent off after being booked again for his celebrations.

Bruce said: “To pick on Forestieri because he is alone with the supporters... he could have sent off my whole team. The 17 of them were in the away end.

“Now we are faced with not having him next week, for what? Totally ridiculous.”

Iorfa said: “My debut could not have been any better. The ball fell to me. I am honestly not sure how. There was a bit of a scramble and I think I got in front of the defender and slotted it away.

“I did not see what happened to Fernando. There was so much going on. I was celebrating in the corner.

“Emotions were running high with a few fans running on the pitch. It was relief. We had not been at our best.”
