BECKS’ BUBBLE BURSTS BY HESS
ANDY HESSENTHALER hailed his Dover side for spoiling David Beckham’s big day.
The former England captain was in the stands for the first time since becoming a Salford shareholder.
Dennis Politic gave Salford the lead with a 45-yard cracker Beckham would have been proud of. But Hessenthaler’s strugglers fought back to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Danny McNamara, Scott Doe and Jai Reason.
Hessenthaler said: “I’m a proud manager because my players came to a place like this, with all the Beckham hype, went 1-0 down and still deserved to win.”
Leaders Solihull Moors came from 2-0 down to draw against Barnet, who had Ashley Charles sent off for two bookable offences. Moors boss Tim Flowers said: “How we did not win I don’t know, but it was a good point and we cannot disrespect that.”
Leyton Orient missed the chance to return to top spot by losing 1-0 at home to Adrian Clifton’s winner for Maidenhead.
O’s boss Justin Edinburgh said: “We’ve got to reflect on this, understand it and try to not become too anxious here and keep doing that we’ve done throughout the season.”
Brian Hughes feels something special is happening at Wrexham, who moved up to second with their third straight victory at Havant & Waterlooville. Three goals in 12 secondhalf minutes proved enough in a 3-2 win. Hughes said: “We need to believe in ourselves and you could see that when the goals went in.” Att: 2,175 Att: 679
