COMIC ‘SIDEKICK’ CHRIST OUTRAGE
SKY PRICE HIKE FEAR
COMICS giant DC has been blasted after its latest book featured Jesus as a superhero’s sidekick.
The firm has cancelled comedy series Second Coming which featured Christ teaming up with Sun Man.
In the satire, Sun Man is dubbed “the son God wished he had”.
It features a disappointed God upset with Jesus for getting himself crucified
“too quickly”.
God sees how people adore
Sun Man and “sends Jesus down to learn from this superhero”.
However, more than
230,000 people signed a petition calling the series “blasphemous” .
DC then cancelled the planned March
6 release.
Writer Mark
Russell said that DC asked for changes that he and
Sun Man artist Richard Pace weren’t comfortable with.
The demands included deleting some swear words and covering up a nude Adam in a Garden of Eden scene.
The Second
Coming cover shows Sun Man beating up a bad guy with a gun and Jesus forcing a loaf of bread into the mouth of another armed man.
The next edition was to have shown Jesus riding through the sky on Sun Man’s back, clinging to his cape in terror and losing a sandal. Mr Russell said: “In this comic, Christ comes back and begins to reclaim his teachings from those who coopted them for their own selfserving purposes.” But Conservative Christian group CitizenGo, which started the petition, said the cancellation was “great news”. EXPERTS have warned Sky’s planned price hike for millions of people will “hit customers’ wallets hard”.
The provider has confirmed changes to bills from April 1, with increases for talk customers starting on May 1. Dani Warner, of uSwitch.com, said: “Many Sky customers will have multiple elements to packages so it’s possible to land a rise of £10 a month, meaning this could hit customer wallets hard.”
A Sky spokesman added: “We try to keep costs down and provide greater choice for our customers.”
