I’VE been telling stupid fibs to impress my new girlfriend.

She’s a huge music fan and when we first met I was so keen to wow her that I hinted I’m old mates with Ed Sheeran and Robbie Williams.

I’d had a couple of drinks and came out with the biggest load of rubbish – which she totally believed.

Now I’ve got her friends asking me all sorts of “secrets” too. It’s excruciating.

At a dinner party recently I was asked non-stop about a holiday to Ibiza I claimed to have spent with my old mate Ed in 2011.

Afterwards she kissed me and said she was proud to be dating a “friend to the stars”. I’m scared if I tell her the truth that she’ll storm out. JANE SAYS: You have to tell her the truth before you sink deeper into the mud.

Explain that wires were crossed on that first night together.

You were so desperate to impress her that your mouth ran away with you.

Now you’re sorry because this situation is like a bad dream.

You’re afraid that you don’t know Ed or Robbie, you’ve never met either of them and certainly didn’t go on holiday with Ed.

If she accuses you of being a fraud, you’ll have to accept that you went too far and she’s not the one for you.

Learn from this. Remember that you are an individual and just as good as the next person – even the Robster – and you don’t have to pretend to be something you’re not.
