Moore glory on the road

- 2 3

JAKE LIVERMORE scored a dramatic added-time winner to fire West Brom to within a point of the top two.

The midfielder decided a thrilling clash to earn a 10th away league win of the season for the Baggies.

That form on the road has Darren Moore’s side breathing down the necks of Norwich, Sheffield United and Leeds.

Livermore’s goal sealed the double over QPR, who lost the reverse fixture 7-1 at The Hawthorns.

There were also goals for deadline-day loan signings Jefferson Montero and Jacob Murphy, though the home side levelled twice through Luke Freeman and a penalty from sub Tomer Hemed.

But Livermore’s strike in the 94th minute in front of the travelling fans set the cat amongst the pigeons in the promotion race.

And it meant a sixth straight defeat for a QPR side in free-fall.

Before five minutes were on the clock Jay Rodriguez teed up Murphy for a shot that was half-cleared off the line by Darnell Furlong.

Streak

Ecuador winger Montero was on hand to swoop and smash the loose ball into the net for his first goal for West Brom on his full debut.

It was the stuff of nightmares for QPR, already lacking confidence after the recent losing streak and it took them a while to regroup.

Steve McClaren had opted to go with a back three but Montero, Rodriguez and Murphy were finding gaps all over the pitch.

Keeper Joe Lumley was left breathing a huge sigh of relief after 26 minutes. His fresh air shot let Rodriguez in but he recovered to tackle the former Burnley striker.

And the home side took advantage of the let-off 11 minutes later.

Nahki Wells slipped the ball to Freeman and his fierce drive went straight through Sam Johnstone.

At the start of the second half a rejuvenated QPR saw Wells curl just wide.

But a poor defensive header from Joel Lynch cost them dear after 61 minutes as Murphy arrowed a shot just inside the post.

They were handed a lifeline by a clumsy 75th-minute challenge by Craig Dawson on Hemed.

The resulting penalty looked to have earned a point but Livermore had other ideas.
